Linksys will never patch as it's declared this router End Of Life (EOL)
With the stock firmware installed this router is equivalent to a hardware virus.
Why use it with OpenWRT
Community maintained Opensource router project regularly updated, secure, fast very configurable (most features of the hardware are unlocked)
Vulnerability that makes it useless with stock Linksys firmware is removed when upgraded to OpenWRT making it safe to use again. Not affected by the FCC Ban (currently)
Capable WIFI 5 router sold as an AC1900 WIFI router but is actually an AC2600 router (OpenWRT unlocks this).
Capable of WIFI WPA3 (Secure WIFI protocol) but not with the stock firmware (OpenWRT unlocks this).
Reasonably quick WIFI AC performance and many more features included with Openwrt.

Plug the router directly into the Ethernet port on your computer/laptop using an Ethernet LAN cable from one of the 4 LAN ports on the back of the router.
Navigate on your browser to the Linksys router at 192.168.1.1 log in
Reset the router
Flash the original twice.
Install Openwrt Firmware on the Linksys router 192.168.1.1
Navigate to the Connectivity tab> Basic
Log into "Luci" OpenWRT
Check online for firmware upgrades (Yes, enable checking) (Save & Apply)
Click on [Go to password configuration] Set password and [Save] it
Plug Ethernet cable from the router WAN port into your internet modem/router.
Open a (CMD) window
Type ssh root@192.168.1.1 press [ENTER]
Log in with router password
apk update
apk upgrade
apk add luci-app-advanced-reboot
apk add luci-app-attendedsysupgrade
Reboot the router
Navigate to Network Interfaces> Click on edit on WAN6 interface> click on [Disable this interface] [Save] [Save & Apply]
Speed test.
Navigate to Firewall>
Routing/NAT Offloading
Not fully compatible with QoS/SQM.
Set to: Software Flow Offloading [Save & Apply]
Reboot the router
Speed Test again.
Configure WIFI 2.4GHz and 5GHz SET COUNTRY CODE! Follow video for detailed instructions.
